Myths About Motor Oil

There are some things that we believe are true about motor oil that simply are not. For one, did you know that just because oil turns dark over time doesn't mean that it needs to be changed? It could actually mean the opposite. However, oil should be changed once it becomes low. You can check your car's owner manual to see the intervals of when to change.

In addition, you don't have to change your oil every 3,000 miles. This is just an estimate. Most oils can now go about 7,000 or more miles.

If you think that engine oil additives are necessary for your engine health, you are wrong again. Putting in additives actually just makes the oil less successful in lubricating the engine's parts.

Synthetic engine oils will not cause seal shrinkage as originally thought. Newer oils are formulated for newer cars, so you should not have to worry about leaks.
