Demystifying Motor Oil

Motor oil can be mystifying. There are several myths and outdated beliefs about it that can confuse you. We here at Alderson European Motors want to clear up a couple of the most common motor oil myths so you can understand how important oil actually is to your engine.

The old rule of thumb says that you should change your oil every 3,000 miles. But modern engines using modern oils can go up to 7,000 miles before needing an oil change. Most cars today have oil life indicators that let you know when your oil is nearing the end of its useful life.

Some think that oil needs to be changed when it turns black. The truth is that the black color comes from contaminants that the oil holds so they don't damage your engine. The color is proof that the oil is doing its job.
