How to Determine if Your Tires Need Replacing

Every vehicle owner should regularly perform routine maintenance on their vehicle. Tires that are in good shape are necessary for safety and for optimum performance on the road. Tires should be checked for the correct inflation pressure and for signs of wear.

The penny method can be used to determine if the tread is the correct depth. Place a penny upside down in the tread groove and if Lincoln's head is completely showing, then it is time to replace the tire. Besides checking the tread, examine the tires for unusual wear. The tire pressure should also be checked and should be at the specifications mandated by the tire manufacturer and the vehicle's manual. You can use a pressure gauge to measure the tire pressure.
